‘Folded’ is a space to share, connect and uplift – created by and for young people in Kendal and the South Lakes.

It started as a desire to create a collaborative and creative collective between young people in the South Lakes – an area rich with cultural importance, yet one that almost completely excludes young people. Folded shows the work of, and builds a community of, writers, artists, actors, musicians and makers alike.

Five issues later, we couldn't be happier with how many contributors we have had the pleasure of working with and the array of creations that has blessed the pages of our zine. Cheers to many more!

Pride in North Cumbria (PiNC) are a LGBTQ+ youth and community group who are based in Carlisle Cumbria. We work from the LGBT centre and deliver activities and workshops to engage with young people , to develop their confidence, and build on their skills to, to support them in getting on in the world.

Great Place: Lakes and Dales is one of the 16 national projects that were funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England under the Great Places Scheme between 2018 and 2021. It continues to focus on the rural corridor linking Skipton in the south and Grasmere in the north, including the market towns and rural hinterlands, extending into both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks.

It aims to understand the reasons for fewer 16- to 34-year-olds than the national average living and working in the area and seek to address them, using arts, heritage and culture as the catalyst for economic, social and environmental change. It aims to help the region to have a vibrant, sustainable creative community, where young people are visible and empowered to play an active role in shaping its future and where artistic opportunities and support are as magnificent as the natural landscapes.’

Arts Emergency is an award-winning charity founded by comedian Josie Long and activist Neil Griffiths. Since 2013 we have provided expert mentors, guidance and opportunities to support hundreds of young people into higher education and creative careers. For our society to be fair and kind, every young person should have the chance to contribute to the culture they live in. That’s why Arts Emergency is dedicated to levelling the playing field. Our holistic programme opens up opportunities in higher education, media and the arts to underrepresented young people, and our aim is to change the make-up of who creates culture. Our community of over 7,000 writers, thinkers, artists, performers, media professionals, academics, and activists is united by this cause. We’re working together towards a more just, representative and vibrant cultural future.

So La Flair are a self-made creative collective of young emerging artists based in Manchester. The company name 'So La Flair' takes inspiration from a 'Solar Flare' which is a sudden explosion of brightness on the sun's surface.

So La Flair creates spaces, performances and events that interweave art, activism and wellbeing. Through their own dynamic collaborative practice, they create work that is visceral, powerful and vulnerable.

They are an interdisciplinary feminist collective providing artists with the platform and community to collaborate and share ideas. The company aims to facilitate a space for the radical restructuring needed in the mainstream arts industry to progress to equality and empowerment both on and off stage.
